The founders of the lab are Ach Adhvaryu - Assistant Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan (, Anant Ahuja-head of Organization Development at Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., and Anant Nyshadham- Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan (

We have been incubated at Shahi Exports, India's biggest apparel export house, where we have conducted several studies in their sixty plus factories in the past six years. Some of our other partners include the Harvard Business School, University of Pennsylvania, the United Nations Development Program, and Humanity United.

The Research Ethics Coordinator will oversee all operations of the GBL Institutional Review Board (IRB). The GBL IRB is an independent board of external experts who review protocols for human subjects research to ensure the protection of study subjects. The Coordinator will manage IRB submission, review, and clearance of study protocols, and will coordinate a team of research associates in processing submissions to the IRB. 

Background and qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in economics or related fields
  • Previous experience working with Institutional Review Boards or research ethics committees
  • Knowledge of the federal laws and regulations governing the conduct of research with human subjects is essential
  • Familiarity with economic research and randomized controlled trials is preferred
  • Excellent Oral And Written Communication Skills
  • Be detail-oriented 
  • Ability to review and prioritize work independently and effectively
  • Ability to be resourceful and creative in problem-solving


  • Conducting first review of protocols submitted to GBL’s IRB (original applications, exemptions, amendments, renewals and unexpected events), determining risk level, and supplementary materials (written consent scripts, research protocols) for IRB submissions. 
  • Remain up to date on IRB regulations
  • Continuously improve IRB processes
  • Continue to promote a culture of research ethics at GBL. This includes conducting literature reviews of ethics regulations and ethics oversight within the organization and events in the international development sector. 
  • Maintain communications with the Good Business Lab IRB, University of Michigan IRB and with the Institutional Review Boards of the affiliated faculty. 

This is a new role at GBL, you will have no predecessor. Flexibility, ability & openness to write your own Job Description and adapt to any changes is a must. 

Remuneration: 7LPA- 12 LPA (The broad range is to accommodate the varied experience and skill set we anticipate in the applicant pool)

Location: This is a full-time position based in Delhi/Bangalore/Remote
