Good Business Lab (www.goodbusinesslab.org) is an independent, non- profit labor innovation lab that uses rigorous research methods to design, develop, and test scalable, market-ready interventions capable of providing dual benefits to workers and businesses. The founders of the lab are Ach Adhvaryu, Anant Nyshadham who are assistant professors of business economics and public policy at the University of Michigan, and Anant Ahuja – head of Organization Development at Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd.
The consultant position relates to project coordination for mobile based applications, which will (1) administer useful and tested management questionnaire to promote workers to a supervisory position and (2) train them in the requisite skills needed to become a good supervisor. This project is in collaboration with several external partners, including our industry partner, Shahi Exports – India’s biggest apparel export firm.
For context, a typical garment production floor has workers organized into several production lines. Each line, with approximately 40-50 workers, assembles one garment. The operations of this line are supervised by a supervisor – who sometimes is promoted from within the current workforce or freshly recruited from outside. Though the current assessment is complete in terms of technical knowledge, many psychometric abilities that are core to being a good supervisor are not measured formally. Moreover, the judgment of good management practices is left at the discretion of the decision makers. To fill this void, we have developed and tested a questionnaire, which encompasses questions on managerial skills, practices, and traits. Moreover, the soft skills training hitherto administered through trainers, will be digitized in form of a multi-lingual Android based application. Currently, we are in the phase of developing these technologies.
To ensure smooth implementation of the project and development of the technology keeping in mind the needs of the firm, the lab is looking for a fixed- term Project Coordinator, details of which are given below.

Length of contract: 12 months (minimum)
Remuneration: 7-10 lacs p.a., commensurate with experience and qualifications

The Coordinator will work closely with the current project team, academic researchers, the research implementation team, and external developers to help develop/modify and implement the technology.
